Hybrid Networks Debuts Innovative Triple Play Modem at NCTA Cable '98 Show, Booth 1544

PR Newswire - April 27, 1998 08:56

Company also Joins Cable Broadband Solutions Forum (CBSF)

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Hybrid Networks, Inc.
(Nasdaq: HYBR), a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-speed cable and
wireless broadband access equipment, today announced that it will be
demonstrating a new innovative Triple Play modem using its Series 2000 system
at the NCTA Cable'98 Show in Atlanta, May 4-6, 1998. The Triple Play modem
supports two-way cable and wireless transmissions and one-way with telephone
and router return.
In booth #1544, located in Hall D
, Hybrid Networks will demonstrate the
new Triple Play modem in a one-way telephone return environment and in a two-
way QPSK environment. "The modem is both a one-way and two-way product which
supports cable, wireless, and telephone return" said Sandra DeRodeff, Director
of Marketing at Hybrid Networks." Cable companies can now economically get
into the market today with a one-way system and convert to two-way in the
future. When the modem is converted from one-way to two-way a modem change is
not required. The telephone return configuration also allows the modem to
operate with ISPs existing modem banks further reducing the initial
investment."
Hybrid's advanced featured two-way QPSK system will be used to demonstrate
Voice over Broadband, Multicasting, and Video and Audio Streaming. Ascend Communications,
Aponet, and industry partners will be in the Hybrid booth discussing their
products and services and the benefits of using them with Hybrid's Series
2000.

The Hybrid Series 2000 product line includes headend equipment and cable
modems, which provides more flexibility and robustness to meet changing
deployment scenarios, than other equipment on the market today. Hybrid's QPSK
has been implemented with advanced features for upstream transmission.
Advanced PHY uses multiple narrow channels in the upstream which are easily
placed in areas without interference, and Forward Error Correction (FEC)
allows our system to handle more noise in the signal. It operates with a 13dB
signal to noise ratio.
At NCTA, Hybrid Networks will also introduce new Customer Care Management
tools. These tools are designed to enhance the customers interaction with
cable modems and help streamline and minimize the demands placed on cable's
service support personnel.
In addition, Hybrid also announced that it joined the Cable Broadband
Solutions Forum, Inc. (CBSF), a non-profit organization formed to strengthen
the cable industry's positioning in the Internet service provider marketplace
and to promote widespread understanding of broadband technology for Internet-
related services.
Hybrid Network's Series 2000 wireless or cable modem/routers allow
operators to provide each individual or business subscriber with Internet
connectivity, supporting up to 20 PC's per modem/router. Hybrid Networks
products offer aggregated downstream bandwidth of 30Mbps per 6 MHz video
channel and upstream cable to 5Mbps, telephone return up to 33.6Kbps, or
router return via ISDN, Frame Relay or T1.
Hybrid Networks, Inc., based in Cupertino, CA, is a broadband access
equipment company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets cable and
wireless systems that provide high speed access to the Internet and corporate
intranets for both businesses and consumers. Hybrid's customers include cable
systems, operators, broadband wireless system operators, Internet service
providers, resellers and other businesses.
