Craig, I agree that is how institutions would like to exit a position, except when there is a problem, then they want out now and don't care what boats they toss around in their wake. Maybe the selling is over, the stock stablizes, we gradually return to old highs and then resume the uptrend. But I have seen this type of price action is a leading indicator of more bad news to come more often than not. I recent example of this is FINE late November to early Dec 1997. Check their chart and subsequent news. We unloaded as soon as we got confirmation of the seller on the first gap down.
