A History of Power : SI ....cont'd....
Seattle, Earthside, March 2004

The merger of SI and go2Net six years earlier had worked very well. It is now widely acknowledged as the first step the Dryers took on the road to power. At first, no changes were evident, this kept the user base happy, many feel that this was instrumental in the events that would unfold. The first glimmerings of what was to come were already evident. Several corporations had already experienced the backlash of the new electronic community. Many thought that it was an effect to which little or no importance could be attached, how wrong they were. To the participants it was obvious, a new age had arrived, they had been empowered. The mix of computer interest and financial interest was very timely, it fed the trillion dollar generation the information pablum they had become used to and dependent upon.
It was known that many executives followed their own corporate threads on SI. The investing public also followed the threads on SI. The opinions voiced were usually very well thought out, posters were generally readers and thinkers who decided to speak out. The paid opinion was also evident and usually obvious. This executive attention and reader interest converged over "coffee breaks", "theater line-ups", and "soire‚'s" to make SI a new "forum of public opinion".
The burgeoning membership really started to take off in the first years of the new century. Revenues and membership applications soared. SI was now the acknowledged leader in financial sites. The powerful community controlled an unbelievable amount of wealth almost casually. SI became a bastion on the financial scene.

Victoria, Canada
Brad and Jeff walked along harbourfront and looked at the wonderful flowerbeds around the old Empress Hotel. They had taken several days off and wanted to get a break from the hustle and bustle of Seattle to confer over several important business decisions. Victoria was a favored destination for many living in the Pacific-Northwest. The quiet murmur of conversation drifted across the short distance between the moored yacht and the walking men.

" Are we going to do it ?" Brad asked.
" I don't see why not, we've been happy with all our decisions so far." Jeff replied.
" It is a long shot, but I agree, let's do it. "

They stopped and looked out across the harbour towards the setting sun, the Dryers made a fateful decision that day. They decided to invest a large sum of money in a startup, it was Keering Research and it was the
type of decision of which legends are made. By staking Keering and taking a percentage of eventual returns, the Dryers took the second step on the road to power.
