Thanks, jhild, for weighing in on the peeing issue. You have brought up an important point. Is there a generally agreed-upon age that you teach your boys to put the toilet seat back down? Or is it sometimes taught concurrently with the basic procedure of standing up and taking careful aim?

I wonder if the fact that most men cannot reliably remember to put the seat down has anything to do with teaching the courtesy issue later. It is possible that the behavior does not become automatic because it is taught as an after thought . . .
