David, I have no real opinion on flea collars in vacuum cleaner bags. It is something I have never done, definitely. I try to never go anywhere near a vacuum cleaner!!!

I did a web search on flea collar safety before I wrote my last post to you about it, and could not find any studies at all. I am not sure whether that is because they do not exist, or are simply not on the web in the format I am using to inquire. Since neither your vet or mine is crazy about the idea, I suspect it is preferable not to use them, however.

Since you are not planning to use one on a long-term basis, I would not worry about it if I were you. I am sure you know that cats who are kept indoors live a couple of years longer, in statistical terms, than those who go outside, and have far fewer illnesses and injuries. But I would agree that cats seem just joyful when they are outside, and it is difficult to deny them this pleasure.

FLEA ERADICATION NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David and everyone else, I have wonderful news about a new flea medication. It is made by Novartis, and is called Program 6 Month Injectable for Cats. It is FDA approved. The active ingredient, Lufenuron, is passed along to the fleas through the animals' bloodstreams, and prevents their eggs from hatching.

It will cost about $30.00 a dose. It can take several months to clear active infestations, but if used early it can keep them from occurring.

This is all from a short article I read in the latest Newsweek. I don't know if Lufenuron is a carcinogenic or not, because the article doesn't say. But certainly, an injection every six months has lots of advantages to it.
