You're forgetting something.

In an (admittedly stale) report, 60% of enterprise users were cited as still running Win 3.x. 16-bit, we're talking.

With Y2K around the corner I'll bet a lot of enterprises will transition to 98 from the 16-bit platforms, and upgrade the hardware at the same time with these seg-zero deals. Hardware upgrades => new HDDs.

So why don't I own any HDD stock?? <g>

I think I'll wait for the release and see what happens to the vanguard. There will be plenty of time to get in after, with much less risk. It never fails to amaze me how easy it is to get advance info on product trends, and cash in on the quarterly report spike (e.g. TDFX).

God bless
PX

(1) The paradigm shift gaining MO:
LANs/WANs/Internet - enterprise storage.

(2) Audio/Visual next year? Esp. w/ Merced out next year.

(3) Digital Cameras help the video thing - all won't be stored on HDDs obviously - perhaps none so moot.

(4) A new bloated version of Gates' operating system always leads to more storage requirements because of fatter .exe and DLLs - as sure as night follows day.

(5) Y2K is big but only for the really high end boys (guessing).

Finally it is a fundamental truism that people will always find a way to use more storage. It is a fact of life - like that death and taxes thing. Of course if it is DVD or cards or some such thing - nah not yet time - too early...
