Several on this thread (including me) have been working with Win98 for some time (about a year for our group). There is NO reason to upgrade hardware just to use Win98, it uses hardware resources more efficiently than Win95 and thus might actually delay some hardware purchases by using existing systems more efficiently. There are lots of new support features in Win98 which only the newer systems have - such as USB support, 1394 bus support, and much better plug and play support which depends on newer hardware to work at its best. But I don't see Win98 as a big driver for hardware.
