I was thinking of the core layer - so since I hold Ascend, products like Ascend's GX 550 and the CBX 500. (And in general in my naive opinion anything ATM based.) For the chips that enable this core layer networking I have been a long time fan of LSI Logic. They have an ATMizer core that is likely doing very well and their networking segment is growing something in the area of 50+% annually. Well placed to take advantage of this type of market. (I actually hold LSI for other reasons as well - this was a bonus.) Fiber is a can't lose propostion and people like QWST have a great story (thanks to TSO for pointing this out!) but I have enough on my plate at this time to be investing in these types of companies at this time. I tend to need to see a few years of financial results + a great forward looking story before I will put money into a stock.

Some of the new era things that you alluded to are kind of too new for me though I suspect they will do extremely well in the next few years - better than my stocks but never mind - I will do all right with what I have! :-)
