I was in to Ritz Camera again today to look around and their stock of digital cameras is about the same. I also went to Best Buy and they have empty shelf space. The clerk told me they are going to add a newer line of products sometime soon, but he thought they would try to sell all the low resolution stuff first.

I tried the Casio QV-700 again and it can take a picture every 1 1/2 seconds or so. I wish that I could take the CF card home to look at the resolution. The LCD screen is pretty weak. For comparison I also test drove the Olympus D-320. This is similar in many ways to the Casio, except that it required 12 to 16 seconds to refresh before a second picture could be taken?! That was with new batteries. I compared these two cameras on high resolution mode to be fair, used the same set of batteries in both and this was the result. I was really taken back. To be fair, the Olympus has a really nice LCD screen which probably explains the extra cost. Additionally, one Web site I visited stated that the Casio resolution was below others with equivalent specs. I question whether the Olympus is slower because it uses SmartMedia while the Casio uses CF. That would be interesting.

The Ritz store may be considering a switch with regard to CompactFlash card replacement suppliers. I saw a poster there for Simple Technology which has a line of CF cards, SmartMedia cards, and Miniature Cards. Their website states they use Lexar's products. They had 8 MB, 15MB and 20 MB Sandisk products still on the display shelf, so I am hopeful.
