CE Mark
CE-Mark also termed as Communaut‚ Europ‚ene Mark is applied to all the manufacturing processes in the European market. It is a pain for American manufacturers because it is identical to ISO-9000 level
certifications except for minor differences. It can be applied to any industry and all it means is that good documentation and quality control exists for all the processes which may or may not be performed on a daily basis.

CE Marking Purpose

The purpose of CE Marking is the free movement of goods throughout the territory of the European Community. CE Marking of a product or system indicates a declaration by the manufacturer or an authorized representative that the product or system complies with the requirements of the Directive(s) relevant to that product or system. Without these Directives, each country would have to test the product to insure it conforms with their national requirements.
The CE Mark affects U.S. manufacturers, like OEMs, exporting to
countries within the European Union (EU). Many manufacturers may have
to modify their products in order to apply the CE Mark. If U.S. products do not comply with the mandatory EU Directives, they may no longer be sold in Europe, resulting in a loss of income and market share for the U.S. manufacturer. Anyone selling into Europe must comply with the Directives.
Evidence of compliance requires a Technical File from the manufacturer on each product. The Technical File includes test information, drawings, dimensions, etc. These must be available in Europe and in the country of origin. This Technical File is not for public distribution and is subject to examination only by EU legal authorities.
The Declaration of Conformity is the manufacturer's statement that the product mentioned complies with the essential requirements of the
Directives. The Declaration of Conformity can be provided to the OEM for use in compiling his Technical File.

Go to this website and its pretty cool. It gives a lot insight in the ISO-9000 process and why it is necessary.

BTW: Jeff and Bill. Always thankful for your good inputs. All of us here should be positive about what we buy or not buy the stock in the first place. All of you keep up the good work. I hope our company gets the CE-Mark in the scheduled time frame without much delay.

Regards,

Sri.
