Great post, rudedog. thanks. I keep telling my fellow investors that it's this sharing of information that benefits us all. It's especially helpful when we are able to add to, and/or correct mistaken or incomplete information. Good job.

Having said that, obviously DELL could acquire just about any DEC, Tandem, or SGI type company of their choosing. Simply put off some of their stock buy back for a year or two and throw down some cash- or whatever. I'm of the opinion, however, that they have a master plan to create their own model. It's widely known that Michael wants to be the **King of "Computer-abia"** and that he has a master plan. In the meantime, so that they don't miss the train, completely, they are forming partnerships with the likes of Clariion and ADIC. These sorts of short term plays will place duketts and dabloons in the bank in the meantime, IMO.

CPQ will make a lot of money- in their own way. Many companies will make a lot of money, all, in their own way. The question is, who will make the most? Who has the best long term master plan? :-)

Thanks again, Greg

Is it me or am I the only one realizing that Dell prices are not as competitive as they used to be. With the turmoil going on with pricing pressures, how does Dell think they are going to keep gaining market share with this strategy? Have they forgot their roots and how they got to be such a powerhouse to begin with. Also, I love the comment weeks back by Michael Dell on the sub $1k market. He stated that Dell is not to deal with outmoded technology. Obviously, he must be surfing the net with a T1 at home cause he is missing the big "bandwidth roadblock" that is causing Intel to choke. Kind of like putting a racecar engine in a Yugo. There is such so far you can go with horsepower if you have a lousy chassis. Any thoughts? And please, you people that have fallen in love with Dell please give me a non-emotional response.
Regards

RE: They might make a play for SGI at some time in the future IMO since that is the last available entry point into the closed fraternity of high end workstations. This is a good strategy but they seem to be a little slow in going after it.

I am sure that with SGI's steller eps trackrecord that a move like this would catapult DELL's stock price into the stratasphere...NOT!

Dell is managing DELL for the stock price. A move like this would be Net net very dilutive and therefore not good for the stock price.
