1. From a design standpoint, the seat is meant to be kept down.

2. Women tend to pee more often than men do, so chances are she'll be using the john again before he does.

3. If only one person--the man--is in charge of seat adjustment, there'll be less role confusion.

4. IF by some chance the guy has missed, and hit the seat, well then HE can be the one to touch it.

Hope this helps...

Much of the myth concerning consideration in this regard, I am afraid, stems from the notion, "If you really loved me you would put the seat down." Thereby removing the issue from the realm of logic and placing it firmly into the realm of faith. Sorta like eating fish on Fridays.

Well women living with men out there, I am proclaiming National Men's Liberation Week. If you really love us, then you will put the toilet seat up after use.

(Important Editors Note: Attention all men trying this - results may vary. Be prepared for unpleasant side effects. This may include the loss of certain privileges through out the duration of the week. And Kids don't try this at home.)
