Joey , re. wrong examples
quite the contrary they fit perfectly since IBM was trying to monopolise the PC business with a proprietary bus (MCA). Sony was trying monopolise video with a proprietary cassette and Apple had the mac business to themselves with consequent high profit high priced products . The result was that other companies banded together and produced open based standards which took the market away from these 3 companies . They were ISA for PCs , VHS for videos and the IBM compatible with Windows O/S took Apple's market share away .
Dream on Joey !
