I owned BGO in '95 when the Cerro Casale was the big deal, but I sold because I didn't like the merger with Arizona Star. That's unusual for me to sell, but I did it also because I didn't think much of gold's prospects.

My suggestions about gold stock have nothing to do with Y2K. I'm starting to see that you guys through Y2K don't mean the computer date counters, you mean the abstract representation of wealth in the form of computer entries world wide. If the computers are down, everybody is poor because all the wealth is only abstract. There is much to be said for that view. I can say that before the bust, one chops wood and carries water. After the bust one chops wood and carries water. In other words things would go back pretty much as they were with some minor shuffling of beneficiaries. The issue is always what you can do in the future that others find of value.

A rising tide raises all boats. JFK said that when he unveiled the tax cut of '63 - '64. Reminds me of Clinton and Gore arguing like the best Voodooers for NAFTA which made clear that most know the right way to proceed but they fear the retribution of those on their side. So if gold rises, the majors and minors rise. I suggested the majors because if your bet is on gold and you don't want the problems of physical gold and don't need to get rich quick, the majors will reliably get you where you want to go. Also, they won't sink like gold dropped in a well. You have to sell Miramar after the run is over. Similarly, all gold stocks have to be eventually sold because they don't add value and there is only a finite quantity of gold in the crust.

ALTA is hot. Hitting on all cylinders. BGO is very close to a major breakout within several days and probably will double in several months. I don't like this 8 + 2 million share offer marked to $3.75, but if it makes the South American properties sing and gold keeps its luster, it could turn out very well. Those SA properties are incredible.
