r,

Good post!

My observations would be: (JMHO)

1) DELL is one of the 'main' providers of the WinTel platform.

2) As INTEL builds the 'next level' of computer (Merced), DELL will make it available at an attractive price.

3) As the next generation of computer (Merced) becomes available, Microsoft will provide the necessary operating system, and DELL will make the 'complex' available at an attractive price.

The other 'big boys' (IBM, CPQ, HWP) already have their platforms, but DELL is just growing into the field. So while DELL 'grows up', the 'big boys' are going to try to 'pare down' their costs. In the end, they may 'meet in the middle'.

It will be interesting to watch, however it unfolds!

Regards,

Ken
