BigK,
don't you think hat this meta-analysis (read rehash the data) has a lot of questions to answer:
1. these are the same pts that PFE has promoted all along. Most of them were having erections to enter the studies so WHAT is the definition of SEVERE ED in the PFE world?
2. the medicattion was "given as needed" ie prn or if you are getting erections you don't need it!
3." 1 (almost never/never) to 5 (almost always/always)" so what are the criteria for rating oneself 2-3-4????? All very subjective isn't it. How about the 2 kg wt routine?
4. "Responders in this analysis were defined as patients
reaching a final (end-of-treatment) score of > 1 from baseline"
see question #3 and so responders were 1 rating above there week 0 baseline. Subjective subjective subjective and speaking of splitting hairs to get a positive result.
5. "doses of 50 and 100 mg, is effective in men with severe ED, with
response rates ranging from 46% to 73%"
I for one am still waiting for the def of severe ED. Response rates from 46 to 73% depending on what? dose? ED type? ED severity?
If these guys thought that they were better based on getting paid to participate in a study, my bet is that they would not think the same way if instead they were paying out of pocket for the medication.

This study would allow a bunch of "never try" ie 0 rating to now rate themselves "almost never/never" ie 1 rating and they are called a successful responder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????????

METHODS: for this meta-analysis, data for 3361 patients with ED (organic
60%, psychogenic 15%, mixed 25%) from 10 double-blind,
placebo-controlled, fixed-dose studies of sildenafil (50-100mg) were
merged. Sildenafil or placebo was taken as needed 1 hour prior to sexual
activity for 8 weeks. The frequency of penetration (Q3) and the
frequency of maintained erections (Q4) were assessed at week 0
(baseline) and week 8 using the 15-item, self-administered International
Index of Erectile Function (IIEF). Responses were graded from 0 (did not
attempt intercourse) or 1 (almost never/never) to 5 (almost
always/always). Responders in this analysis were defined as patients
reaching a final (end-of-treatment) score of > 1 from baseline

CONCLUSIONS: The results of this meta-analysis indicate that sildenafil,
at doses of 50 and 100 mg, is effective in men with severe ED, with
response rates ranging from 46% to 73%.>>>>>>>>>>
