Jawd:

Don't count me in on that consensus, except for the customer service part. I think they are very reliable, great executions and I don't feel I've been skimmed.

My only prior experience was with Schwab, though, although that was 20 years worth.

And I am more of a short-term position trader than a daytrader.

jawd, first I am not an apologist for Datek. I believe their problems are mainly in the area of cutomer service. But not in the way they execute trades. Second, "whine" was an unfortunate choice of words, and I apologize for that. BTW you were not targeted by that comment, as your lost money seems directly related to Dateks system problems. You are IMO acting correctly by talking with your wallet.

Your personal experience is certainly valid to post here and is appreciated.

But many people here do "talk" about personal experiences that, when looked at a little more closely than the surface, are nothing more than there own poor trades.

It just seems many people feel a "right" to buy at the bid and sell at the ask, and I just think they should be a little more realistic.

And, I certainly don't want to even stifle those comments. I just feel the need to dig a little deeper in the interest of full disclosure.

1) Unreliable - I disagree.
2) Bad customer service - could be improved, certainly.
3) Skimming off the top - totally disagree.
4) Won't be around in a year - totally disagree, but I believe that may be taken over by a big guy, like Lombard was.
