if you are posting facts or info you are sure of there's no problem. if an IMHO, state so in your post. If a guess/speculation/rumor with no corroboration, say so in capital letters and post. the point is to qualify your remarks so they can be taken for what they are, no more and no less. Members/lurkers here will often make a decision to buy/sell based on their DD and the aggregate spin of info posted. misrepresentation of that information, whether by omission or comission, may push a reader's decision the wrong way. Unwarranted bashing IMHO, should have a penalty. Harsh Criticism of people who do not exercise minimum responsibility for their posts is not only warranted, but in the interests of all parties. If I owned the board, I would set up a 10 member Judiciary panel comprised of members whose posts consistently reflect the criteria and standards for informative posts, as determined by nomination and electronic vote of all members. These members would serve as a tribunal posting the names (SI nicknames) of individuals found to be misrepresenting info to others on a repeated basis. these ABUSERS could then be more easily ignored. a thread with copies of their messages/evaluation could be set up with ability to post limited to SI and/or panel members. maybe it could become a learning/rehabilitation center for some members -- like the public town stockades of Puritan New England. the bottom line, IMHO, is that as SI grows and gains outside visibility, it risks deterioration along several lines already visible to me and cited by others. 1. too much idle chat (for god sakes, if you want to gab, use E-Mail (or at least set up a gab thread separately). people are trying to glean info here, not follow the "days of your lives". 2. too many emotional outbursts (accusations and reactions). If you can't take the time to be rational, don't post. beat up on a beanie baby off line. don't make people wade through childish tantrums. 3. CREDIBILITY. SI will increasingly be the target of misinformation peddlers. you can't eliminate them, and their opposing spins can serve a purpose, but they are weeds in the garden of truth whose spread/proliferation needs to be exposed/controlled. The bloom of truth must predominate if the garden is to survive. show me an advertiser or customer willing to pay for a garden tour of weeds. AS TO ALL OF THE ABOVE, KNOW THAT IT IS SIMPLY IMHO. LOL TO US ALL.
