Dell may be #1 in short interest among NASDAQ stocks if you consider that WCOM, the only stock ahead of it, probably shouldn't count. WCOM is being shorted heavily because of the pending MCI merger. Risk arbitrageurs aren't necessarily bearish on WCOM, and are shorting it only to hedge their long postion in MCI.
