>>>Banking on Tribeca Billing Service

Well this article has some obvious errors:

>>>a consortium spearheaded by IBM and 16 banks

....Last I checked it was 18 Banks, I guess with the mergers you could count it as 16. I heard a rumor this weekend that Fleet and First Union will merge (so maybe 15 banks). I wonder if it will ever be one bank? Integrion Bank?

>>>Most large banks cater to their customers and will probably end up implementing all three technologies--Tribeca, MSFDC and CheckFree.

....This is incorrect. Pete talked about this last quarter, and said that It would be very expensive for Wells Fargo to use both MSFDC and CheckFree, and most likely would not continue.

The article also compares OFX to GOLD. There is no need to compare the two since they will be combined.

Benny: good article. Thanks.

I especially liked these parts:

"... firmly entrenched CheckFree Corp. ... Mighty Microsoft has only had partial luck with MSFDC... But volume sales reside with direct billers, including the cable companies, telcos and utilities. They'll probably choose only one technology, and the field is wide open."

Wide open, maybe. But CKFR is far ahead in the race to be the "one technology" chosen by billers.

Also note the Oracle competition is vaporware. It requires an Oracle system and server that don't even ship until June.

"Tribeca-enabled banks will act as bill consolidators. Consumers can get single consolidated statements from these banks and also will be able to write electronic checks, a la CheckFree. If the banks are not part of the picture, consumers will be forced to visit each biller individually."

Again, who wants to chase down their bills all over the 'net', when they can gp to a one stop bill payer.

Also on that touch-tone funds transfers, ChechFree is involved, indirrectly I believe as most of it is run off of CF's software. This industry is currently about 4 billion transactions However, CF isn't letting go of their ACH, and while no revenues at present, maybe in the future?
