Sam, you covered my thinking nicely - Seagate is not a pure software play but Software is a potentially lucrative diversification for SEG. What I really liked from the Forbes article is shat they are diversifying into a highly focused niche (backup and report writing software) and seem to be hitched to the right horse - Windows NT which is stealing marketshare from Novell as well as from Unix.

BTW, could you tell me a little more about Dragon systems? What do they make?

regards,
-sudhi

I agree. I didn't buy SEG for the software component. I bought it for its share of the disk drive market and the technology SEG produces. Nonetheless, the software component is attractive. I guess we'll see what happens if and when SEG Soft spins-off. Thanks.
