Tulvio, Mexican Mayan is a low grade heavy crude with lots of sulphur in it- hard to refine and produces less of the more desirable high end products in the refining process. Also less refineries are set to run heavy crudes- so you have less of an intermediate market too...

In fact the price differentials between WTI Intermediate, California Heavy, Brent, Mexican Mayan, South Lousiana Sweet Crudes, etc., are all primarily based upon the products that can be extracted form the various crudes in the refining process....
