Hydraulic fracturing [a frac ] is a well stimulation process performed to improve production from formations where the natural flow is
restricted. The process involves pumping a fluid into a cased well at
sufficiently high pressure to fracture the formation. A proppant is
added to the fluid and injected into the fracture to prop it open,
thereby permitting hydrocarbons to flow more freely to the wellbore.
