Jerard,

Excellent post - and not just because I'm also a leftie from time to time! "just giving them a chance to applaud or boo" is a delightful idea - gives the "lurking" audience something to participate in, and helps management decide whose posts are truly valuable, and whose are useless chatter, or even worse. But if you continue with your theater metaphor, don't the audience have to pay to get in?

Bob

Hi JJP,

Good points. As well as a poster here at SI, there are threads on which I'm part of the "silent majority" (how's that for bringing up Dark Images!) and am in Read Only mode.

My email box tells me that those who, for their own reasons, choose not to discuss their investments or strategies in a public forum do, in fact, gain much from what they read here on SI. It would be a shame to not have this public resource available the WWW in general.

I've "met" people from around the globe through SI and almost all of them are not regular posters here but part of that "read only" mass of humanity that visits here regularly. Search engines regularly pick up the SI threads as sources of information on investment topics. I'd hate to see those search efforts end in a "You must first register and......" message for those desiring more information.

Best regards, Tom

I had some brief discussions with Brad, Jeff, and Jill regarding one sub-class of "lurkers". Those being the senior execs and officers of the companies talked about in these SI threads. This sub-class of "lurkers" may have influenced Brad somewhat for though they are silent on the threads, they have often given the SI threesome more than an earful including threats of injunctive relief. For legal and professional reasons a large component of these lurkers will always remain anonymous. But this is more opportunity than problem.

I know for a fact that at more than one high tech company which I often trade, a post to the thread is a direct line to the top corporate offices. I'm sure its safe to generalize on this.

Name any other 30-something kids who've had a more profound impact on the corporate Board rooms of High Tech. Bill Gates comes to mind but that's about it for my list. My hat is off to these three for they have given us investors a tremendous leverage point to the Boards and management of the companies we invest within. The profound impact that SI will continue to have in this regard can only be guessed at, but is bound to be enormous. So I say let them lurk! They work for us right ? And this is where they need to come to find out our latest biddings.

BTW when I realized that GNET bought SI thru my SI wanderings over the weekend, I had an instinctual gut reaction and rushed off an order to buy GNET at the open. Put in a limit at 28, got filled on the down spike at 26.25. For better or for worse, I now own a piece of SI, one of my long held goals.

- Another left side dominant being

SI

The more I read, the more I realize the importance of
lurkers. Please do not let this unknown entity slip
through the cracks.

Best Regards
