Alex, Christine -- <<I find it telling that our worst gun problems occur in the localities with the strictest gun laws.>>

Which came first, the chicken or the omelet? Wouldn't places with serious gun problems usually enact strict laws? And don't laws kind of get ignored where they are most needed?

Funny, though, in percentage gun deaths, places with lenient laws usually show up as the worst (AR, FL, LA, AL, TX leap to mind - no one considers them serious gun-death-risks, but as percentages of population, they are). And I really don't shiv a git. There are places where, if you pack, you'll be left alone (often very alone), and places where, if you pack, you become another target.

One must do what one deems best for his/her situation. And, when in doubt, empty the clip...

Okay, so we totally disagree. I have already cited urls with lots of legal opinion supporting my view of the second amendment, and I am sure you could supply opposing ones.

I have already cited police department statistics about the probability of your gun being used against you, but you disagree with them.

What I do know is that America is turning into a shooting gallery, the most violent of countries I could imagine, and it is happening very conclusively and quickly. Are you arguing that the easy availability of legal weapons is going to change that for the better? I think it is a contributing factor!!

This is really a situation where I don't think you see the big picture, Alex, and you think I am trying to take your essential rights away. There is little we will probably ever agree on regarding this issue, but I was right about America falling apart, and it is happening even faster and more decisively than I predicted.
