Well from my previous post I think my position on linux is crystal clear. If I decide to invest again in SGI, I hope that no one at SGI is expending any resources to do anything with linux.

REMEMBER .-. An InTeL processor is a terrible thing to infect with a borg virus.

All software for VisualPC will be NT,
and SGI will probably not release specs in order to implement Linux,
irix will not be available for the VisualPC.

Plans for MIPS only go so far as CY 2000, thereafter the Merced
is the processor of choice.

These are the two main items I came away with after a presentation (public info) from SGI reps this morning. Below is a bit more opinionated:

Conclusion: For performance/price + unix desktop you may likely choose a Linux Alpha - year 2002 merced performance today. Also from this presentation I got the impression that the computer universe as percieved by SGI is "We" (Intel/MS/SGI/HP) and the others. Married to Microsoft without realizing that Microsoft has 5 other wives.
