To all:
Just read an article in the April 20 issue of information week. Gives some details of the Compac deal with GM. Some points to note:

"next month will begin a 2-year global rollout of an ambitious IT architecture that will provide up to 175,000 GM users with Web access."

"rollout includes new applications as well as Compac computer PCs purchased under a contract that could grow into the largest desktop procurement ever."

"The contract calls for systems with PII chips running at at least 200 MHz."

I'd say win for Compac, win for Intel. Loss for Dell, loss for AMD/Cyrix. I'm sure the Dellionares will think up some way to make this a win for Dell and a loss for Compac. I'd stock up on some Compac shares if I were them!

Q: Why can't Dell beat Compac on a huge contract like GM?
A:Service after the sale. Dell offers great boxes but Compac offers good boxes with great support. Support outweighs great box.
