With the AMZN news I'm expecting a big up date for the bloated internet stocks tomorrow. Might be a good opportunity to do some shorting if you are so inclined. I bought some puts on amd but I'll admit I'm nervous about that. AMD doesn't seem to obey normal laws of the market, like having earnings. It kind of reminds me of MU, another stock which I learned the hard way not to play because it apparently has a ton of true believer supporters who are willing to wait decades if need be for a profitable year. I'll give AMD a couple of weeks, if it hasn't sunk at all by then I'll give up and will look elsewhere. I wish I had kept my second and third tier internet shorts (which I definitely made some small quick bucks on) as they have collapsed substantially from where I bought them back at. Oh well, I was hoping that the schlock internet stocks would have a second wind and I was just plain wrong... I think GTW and HWP look like the two best shorts right now. But I'm more than willing to hear other's favorites.

A friend of mine just made some real money in 4 days putting asnd. It might not be too late for shorting/putting all those old time hype stocks a la asnd which have come back from the dead this year, even if their earnings haven't resusitated. I'll have to check my files to remember all the former hot air balloons from the last couple of years which have now recovered and look vulnerable. With this one success, my friend has wiped out a whole year of losses. He bet big on asnd and he won big.

Craig,

Unless proven wrong, Abby Cohen is still queen of Wall Street. Late April and May are always tough for market, especially tech issues. Also market is smart enough to tank a bit to please Mr. Greenspan. Hope that DOW and NASTAQ drop further so market bulls can pick some cheap issues and also avoid a Fed rate raise. Still firmly believe DOW will hit 10000 and Nastaq 2000 late summer or fall in 98.

happy trading,
larry!
