I think it was the Reuters journalist that supplied the observation on middleware suppliers, that paragraph just doesn't seem consistent with the announcement itself.

The whole thing sounds much more akin to the IBM San Francisco project than anything else - all that "Value Chain Initiative" stuff doesn't sound like product to me.

The SF project is EJB-based. Microsoft can't let that go unchallenged.
