PRESS RELEASE - April 24, 1998 SINCHAO - MAJOR DRILLING PROGRAM COMMENCES EPITHERMAL GOLD, SILVER, COPPER TARGET Drilling of the first hole has commenced at Sinchao in the newly discovered major epithermal (high sulphidation) gold, silver, copper zone. Surface outcrop here demonstrates strong quartz alunite - pyrophilite alteration. Previous drilling in this zone by El Misti last year intersected from the surface to the bottom of the hole 126 metres grading 0.70 g/t Gold, 27 g/t Silver, 1.15% Copper. This was the only hole drilled in this zone. The dimensions of the drill target have been revised upwards to 1200 meters in length by 300 - 500 metres in width and to 500 metres in depth. The majority of the drill pad outcrops exposed by recent earthworks for drill machine access show strong alteration and visible disseminated pyrite and copper sulphide mineralization. DRILL PLAN The drilling program is being initiated with a Foremost W750 Prospector reverse circulation rig. This will be augmented by the Maxi dual purpose drill rig with 12H8 Boyle's diamond drill attachment. This dual capacity rig is capable of both reverse circulation and diamond drilling. In the epithermal zone drilling will be at minus 60§ to a maximum depth of 300 metres with reverse circulation drilling and to 700 meters with the dual purpose drill rig. Depth capacity is summarized as follows: Foremost 750 W Prospector RC 0 - 300 metres Maxi - Dual purpose rig RC 0 - 300 metres Diamond HQ 0 - 500 metres Diamond NQ 500 - 700 metres The first phase of the program is planned for 10,000 meters of drilling.
