Canelo said he believes the Fed will hold the line on interest rates next month, if only to foster economic stability in Asia.
He also advised investors to buy up "economically sensitive" stocks like those of paper and metal companies, along with shares of high-growth technology firms like Intel.
"If Japan can pull together an economic stimulus plan, which they have, then I think it would be rather inappropriate to suddenly raise rates anyway," he said. "That would push up the dollar, take down the Yen and threaten Southeast Asian stability. It's not likely to happen."
