I configured a 400MHZ machine on the order kiosk (?) with regular shipping. It said estimate time of arrival would be May 11. Either Compaq is slow, or they can't make enough of them.

When new the new high performance chips are released, they are usually on allocation. Nobody can get enough. In the past, when I have ordered after new chips were announced as being available, I had to wait three weeks, too.

I was in N. California. Checked out a Radio Shack in a suburban mall yesterday, saw only one compaq on display. A 233 for $1395. Pretty small and dirty store. The salesman said they would compaq area with abunch of machines by July. Configure your own and all that. I wonder...

I work with a computer graphics company. Judging from the computer ads in the mail every day, Dell, without a doubt, is targeting on the needs of the professionals who are slowly moving over to $6-10k NT systems when abandoning their Macs.

Might be a small market compared to wiring a fortune 500, but Compaq is not going for this segment at all.

Makes Dell look like Lexus and Compaq look like a Chevy. Now which would you buy?
