Darren, in one year Amazon went from 16 million is sales to nearly 90 million. Just think what an accomplishment that was.

How many companies break a profit in the first 2 years of operation? And how many companies can match Amazon's sales increase?

People around the world using the internet to buy books is only in it's infancy. We, (by that I mean people of SI) are still a rare oddity statistically speaking. Most people are either afraid to purchase books via the net, have just hooked onto the net and really don't know how to use it yet. Or still don't have a home PC!

And that is just the U.S. market.

It seems to me that Amazon is in an all out war to win brand awareness. It remains to be seen whether this strategy is the right one.

Is the stock overpriced? Well, by every normal measurement of the past, yes. The question is then. Are some of the internet stocks about to change this paradigm forever??

10 years from now, who will still be using the internet to generate sales and income?

My chips are in Web-database development, but I find this thread and stock alluring.
