CyberGuard Corporation Announces First 'Scalable' Firewall for Microsoft Windows NT
Enhanced Internet Module and Year 2000 Protection for Windows NT Firewall Product Suite Provides Flexible Solution for ALL Security Requirements
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1998-- CyberGuard Corporation (NASDAQ:CYBG - news), a leading provider of network security and electronic commerce solutions, today announced the availability of the newest addition to its technically acclaimed CyberGuard(TM) Firewall family of products for Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R).

The CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT with SecureGuard(TM) now includes Internet SmartProxies(TM) which adds Internet support to the product's intranet and extranet security capabilities. CyberGuard has also added its unique MilleniumGuard(TM) solution to the CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT, which provides protection from non-compliant year 2000 sites. These new modular capabilities make the CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT the first scalable firewall solution for the Windows NT platform.

''With a combination of all three types of firewall architecture, full NT environment hardening, a wide range of proxies and intuitive, centralized management capabilities, CyberGuard is one of the best NT-based firewalls we have seen,'' noted an April 1998 product review by Secure Computing Magazine.

CyberGuard's Internet SmartProxies for its Windows NT firewall product suite expand Internet capabilities that enable customers to selectively configure the firewall according to their specific Internet, intranet and extranet requirements while only paying for the capabilities they require. The product's modular configuration and common central management save the users time and money by allowing them to tailor the firewall for their security needs. The MilleniumGuard feature uses unique rule-based filtering to provide continuous protection from non Year-2000 compliant sites, a growing requirement for enterprise customers worldwide.

''We added the new CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT to our portfolio because it is an extremely channel-friendly product,'' noted Andrew Kubota, MIS Manager of systems integrator Hitachi Software, a CyberGuard reseller. ''It has the ultimate security and flexibility, and installs in less than fifteen minutes, depending on the customer's needs.''

Unlike existing firewalls for Windows NT that are simply applications that reside on top of the Windows NT operating system, CyberGuard's Windows NT solution includes SecureGuard which creates a perimeter shield around the Windows NT operating system, typically the most vulnerable point of attack. The new product offers the advantages of CyberGuard's unique operating system security based on CyberGuard's firewall for UNIXWare(R), the only commercially available firewall with a B1-evaluated operating system and networking product. The advanced Internet SmartProxies for the CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT also draw from the Company's heritage of award-winning firewall products for UNIXWare. The latest versions of the CyberGuard Firewall for UNIXWare and Windows NT are currently undergoing evaluation against the Information Technology Security Evaluation & Certification Scheme (ITSEC) for E3 level certification in the United Kingdom.

''In developing the new CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT, we leveraged our experience in the security industry to address the full range of Internet, intranet and extranet security requirements,'' noted Marty Ryan, CyberGuard's vice president of worldwide marketing. Our unique firewall solution for Windows NT is the first to provide modular features delivering complete flexibility for the end user.''

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT ranges from $1,495 - 15,545 (US List), depending on the number of hosts, utilized services and application proxy modules.

Firewall products for both UNIXWare and Windows NT are currently available worldwide through CyberGuard's direct sales force and Business Partner Program, which includes value-added resellers, network integrators, and security solution providers specializing in network security and electronic commerce solutions. The CyberGuard Firewall for Windows NT is also available through Tech Data Corporation [Nasdaq:TECD - news], with more than 70,000 value-added resellers and retail dealers worldwide.

Training for Internet SmartProxies and MilleniumGuard has been added to CyberGuard's extensive curriculum for Microsoft Windows NT. This curriculum has been jointly developed with Productivity Point International, the leading provider of technical training to Microsoft Windows NT administrators.
