"Heirs and Graces
Distortion of facts' puts Penuell Maduna in row over diamonds

Maduna defended in row over diamond mining rights

Johannesburg - The minerals and energy department denied yesterday that Penuell Maduna, the minister, was backing SouthernEra, a Toronto-listed company, in its efforts to secure diamond rights at the Marsfontein farm in the Northern Province.

Jan Bredell, the deputy director-general at the department, said recent local and Canadian media reports that the minister was taking sides in the dispute were "based on an unfortunate distortion of facts".

Bredell said the dispute started last December. The Canadian company, in a joint venture with a locally based mining house, Randgold, jointly applied for the transfer of the diamond rights, which were then registered in the names of four people who died 30 years ago.

He said the minister then started processing the application in terms of section 17 of the Minerals Act, which provides for a transfer of rights to a new applicant two years after the death of the holder or holders and a valuation.

Bredell said while the minister was processing the application he was approached by people who claimed to be heirs to the estate.

He said the heirs told the minister they had "an interest in the matter" and applied to the high court for an interdict against the minister.

However, Maduna is said to have indicated his intention to oppose the interdict.

"SouthernEra and the heirs are still involved in legal proceedings, and it would therefore be totally inappropriate for the minister and the department to take sides in the matter", Bredell said."

Challenge to Goalie.

My sources are impeachable.
Where do you get your info from?(The National Enquirer)
My info came directly from the Department concerned in SA-their very own press release.
I challenge you to refute a single fact that I have contributed on this thread.

The V-P of SUF announced on National television that the DME was backing their side in this matter, knowing full well that this was incorrect.
At the very least the executives of SUF are guilty of bad corporate governance.

The shareholders investments have been put at serious risk.
You try and paint a picture of the heirs being a motley assortment of greedy unscrupulous 'goldiggers' where in fact it appears that the opposite is true.

Many of the heirs are in fact professional people i.e. Doctors, lawyers etc.. and if necessary have the financial resources to fight SUF to the very end.I hope that this will not be the case.

BTW no attempt was ever made to contact any of the heirs directly even though their identities were known.
