It is my belief that analysts, by virtue of their function, enjoy a special relationship with companies that allows in depth access that investors do not get.

This would be especially true of highly influential analysts like Lehman Bros. Implicit in a company's giving such access, the analyst would be expected to not tank the stock. This may be why we almost never see an outright sell signal from analysts. The rating just goes to neutral. The occasional sell signals we do see are probably from estranged analysts who may have axes to grind with a company.

Any other facts/opinions about analysts out there?
