Good question. Litigiousness hobbles Y2K remediation. Currently, it is forcing companies to keep their plans under wraps, and preventing the issue from getting the exposure it deserves.

I have to believe that if the liability burden is perceived as an obstacle -- scaring off solution providers -- the government will throw its support behind the solution-providers. This may take the form of subsidized insurance, or even legislating liability caps (h*ll, if they can do it for tobacco...), or simply upholding the contractual arrangements between the Y2K-SP's and their clients.

The horrors of 1-1-2000 are going to be real enough, without adding "injury" to injury, and the government has a tendency to do whatever is necessary to keep its tax base healthy...
