Bay Networks Technology Chosen by FAMSA, Mexico's Leading Furniture Manufacturer; New Network Interconnects Over 100 Offices Throughout the Country

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1998--Bay Networks, Inc., (NYSE:BAY) today announced that FAMSA (Fabricantes Muebleros Sociedad Anonima), Mexico's leading furniture and small home appliance manufacture, has purchased over 100 Access Node (AN(R)) Routers to be used in each of their offices throughout the country.

FAMSA has divided Mexico into eight regions, with each office using one AN router to connect to a centralized server within that region.

"At first we decided to integrate the branches, based on inventories, sales, and billing information. The results were impressive so we started internetworking cities in order to have more autonomy by each branch, but at the same time more control," said Eduardo De la Rosa, CIO at FAMSA. "We were looking for scalability and reliability, with ease of administration and configuration, and knew that Bay Networks could provide the solution for our internetworking problem."

The new network system, defined in 1993, was designed to increase sales and support of their POS terminals, sale scheduling and programming, inventory management, suppliers/providers catalog, and distribution. The new network is managed from FAMSA headquarters located in Monterrey, Mexico. FAMSA, founded in 1970, has increased its revenues by over 40% in the last two years and has plans to open 50 additional offices throughout Mexico in 1998. The additional offices will be interconnected with the existing 100 offices. Future plans for a larger, integrated network include interconnecting FAMSA's sister companies, FACSA,Exportmuebles and Mayoramsa.

"Anixter, our partner, worked with us to provide a winning solution and we are very pleased and proud that our products and services could contribute in the success of a well recognized Mexican company like FAMSA," declared Gerardo Chavez, Latin America North's regional manager, Bay Networks.
