Things are much improved since 1995 when CPQ and Intel entered into a cross-licensing agreement. But Intel has done a lot to enable CPQ's competition through development of motherboards for 2 -way and 4-way systems which they sell to outfits like Dell. This enabled Dell to get into the server business with almost no engineering. At the moment Intel is busy enabling Sun to poach on CPQ territory through aggressive Merced programs. Intel thinks whatever they do to expand their market is OK, devil take the hindmost. Gordon Moore does not have much influence on day to day Intel policy any more.
