<I am curious about the way in which homosexuality is transmitted genetically. It is hard for me to understand true homosexual traits being passed when each time it arises it leads to sterility.> Donald, first of all, homosexual men are not sterile. They are as fertile as any other men, and there are many homosexual men who could not accept they were homosexual for one reason or another, or had to hide that fact because there is so much discrimination against homosexuals. So these men have often married and had several children before they came to grips with their sexual identity. I think the question you are asking, however, is how homosexuality is inherited, and the way that seems to work is that in a study of homosexual men, researchers are noting that there were other homosexual men on their mother's side of the family. For example, the mother of a homosexual man might have a brother who is homosexual. So it is not passed down directly, but from the mother's relatives. Many scientists are working right now on studying the genetic links, and believe they are about to identify conclusively the actual gene or genes for homosexuality. <I also wonder about this common misconception that we can somehow control reality by our beliefs. Do you really think that truth is somehow connected to what anyone believes? Truth must be constantly true regardless of how much I believe it. Don't you agree?> I am not sure what you are asking here. There is objective reality (what actually happens), and subjective reality (the way each individual perceives it). There are a lot of differences of opinion on this. The question "if a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, did it actually make a noise" is something philosophers debate all the time. Either there is an actual heaven, with God sitting on a throne, pearly gates and angels playing harps, or there is not. Believing in it does not make it so, and no one will know until they are dead whether it is true or not. I do think we can CHANGE reality with our beliefs, and that is why the kinder and more tolerant and accepting and loving people are, the more the world will be a wonderful place.
