Your post is absolutely correct. Hopefully ifmx will distinguish itself as the creative alternative while orcl and msft battle it out. I doubt orcl will win.

SQL Server 7 will depend on the performance and stability of NT 5.0 and beyond. What that is remains to be seen but if history is any indication... well draw your own conclusions. Although the SYBS ASE is a great data source I think the niche will revolve around the tools, middleware, and services offerings. Folks that believe in the adaptive server architecture will continue to use the ASE product. When debating SYBS vs IFMX data sources it seems that the architectural philosophy gets in the way. Actually it feels like a holy war so I should not go there.
