Wow. I am impressed by the revenue realized this Quarter ($47 Million). I still wouldn't put any money into SYQT, but if this continues, they may actually start to break even if they can get enough external SparQ's onto store shelves. However, SG&A killed the balance sheet, and R&D is pathetic.

But SyQuest is apparently following the Iomega business model of tons of ads, with miniscule R&D.

" The netloss for the six months ended March 31, 1998 was approximately $70.7 million or a net loss of $1.00 per share as compared to a net loss of $47.1 million or a net loss of $2.30 per share in the same period last year."

Ignoring the effect of share dilution, we see that Syquest's six month loss increased from $47.1MM to $70.7MM, an increased loss of $23.6MM or 50.1%.

Since Syquest was just ramped up at the beginning of the recent quarter, one may choose to focus more on it than the six month period, but may be unwise to lose sight of it completely.

A question in my mind is how Sparq will do against the $99 ATAPI Zip? Sony and Orb remain Vaporware in my mind.

When Syquest reports revenues, what's included. Are sales revenues recorded when shipped. I believe the conservative practice is not to include sales until retail sales are completed. (Sales through)
