Right. I see a hetrogeneous environment, mainframes, LANs,
CORBA, client-server, Java, and browsers - all of which will
become a big management headache.

Michelle you should check out platform.com. They
make software for distributed load sharing. Many
big customers, including AMD (that small dog that
keeps biting Intel on the ankle) are using their
software, and giving it rave reviews.

The basic idea is their software will divide up
a complex batch job and farm it out in pieces to
any machine on a network which is idle for more
than 15 minutes. If a user returns before a job
completes then it is suspended or aborted.

It's one of those things where you would think the
preprocessing and network traffic overheads would
be too high, but in practice it seems to work very
well.
