Samsung Electronics produces prototype 256M DRAM, plans output early 1999

SEOUL (AFX-ASIA) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said it has become the
first company to produce prototypes of 256 megabit dynamic random access
memory chips, adding that it plans to begin mass production of the new 256M
DRAM in early 1999.
Samsung said the 256M DRAM will be the same size as existing 64M DRAMs
and can also be installed without any modification in any computer systems
using 64M or 128M DRAMs.
The 256M DRAM chip can store the equivalent of 2,000 newspaper pages of
data, it said.
