Shares of a company are a commodity like any other commodity. No matter how good it is, if people aren't aware of its use or potential then there is less buying. All companies advertise.

You might argue that the company should be advertising its process, not its shares. First of all this advertisement does both. Second of of all, the bottom line for all companies is to increase shareholder value. To do this they must both improve their earnings per share and improve the earnings multiplier of the shares. This also serves to permit financings at ever higher prices and therefor the issue of less shares are required to raise the same money.

Whether $250,000 will bring a fair return to the shareholders is anybody's guess. In any event there can be no other reason for doing this than to increase shareholder value. Failure to promote the value of the shares would be in deragation of their duty to shareholders.
