Dear Alexis, your editing of my orginal quote

"99 out of 100 will be" lost it's meaning with out the
paraphrased reference to president PIG VOMIT. The idea is that 99 out of 100 application could be satisfied with a 600 mhz alpha. I doubt that even 5 out of a 100 will ever know what an alpha is. But a high percentage of people in that market for SGI like performance will be aware and no doubt SGI will lose sales. How many is the question.

Alexis, ITEM 2

The fact that 99 % of linux machines are not alpha's is because N-gin-ears are smart and very very very cheap with their own moola.(at least that my take of my fellow nerds in the land where PIG VOMIT rains) On a personal note: I take great satisfaction in knowing that buy spending an extra 500.00 on processing power for my home PC, each of my 1600x1200 displays give me answers as fast as my single 1208x1024 display octane at work. Also the 10 desktops on each are much simpler to organize and understand.

Alexis ITEM 3 Do you use linux on your home PC ??? If you don't, then you may not get it.

ALEXIS item 4 A colleague of mine shortly after shaking the hand of he who gave the sermon on the mountain view had a conversation (in the men's room) in which is was suggested that 10 minutes after the first SGI wintel boxes were delivered that linux would be ported. A reply was given that because SGI was going to use a HAL to get some of the clunk out of NT, this would not be likely. Do You or any of your colleagues who use linux on their home PC's have any comment.

PS HAL is not the computer from 2001.

Oh! an Alexis, Alas I have spent much time hanging around extremely elegant marketing and sales dudes in my previous life times. So yes some times this Sea Scout Skipper and N-gin-ear adds a few inches to the catch of the day. But all in the spirit of fun. (As long as it's at someone elses expense.) I like that term marketroid. H'mm, I going to use it and take credit for inventing it.

REMEMBER ))-(( An intel processor is a terrible thing to infect with a borg virus.
