From simulation to schematic capture, MCAD, ECAD, bring-up test and validation, Dell does it all. Gateway OEM's all of their motherboards and it's a common misconception that Dell does too. Dell and GTW are not similar in this respect. Dell's Product Group who's responsible for these designs has a headcount close to 1000 people... a few hundred are electrical engineers. Have you seen their
patent portfolio?

The Optiplex line (business desktops) account for 55% of total sales.
ALL of the motherboards, Power supplies and chassis are designed exclusively by Dell. Optiplex has NEVER OEM'd a board by anybody.

Servers and Workstations which comprise ~12% of sales are almost exclusively Dell designs... for all intensive purposes. I say almost
because they have, in the past, used an Intel motherboard for low end, quick-to-market server products. Chassis, never OEM'd however.

Dimension uses Intel motherboards exclusively. This is their SOHO line and makes up roughly 20% of sales. The remainder goes to notebooks which are a 50/50 in-house design / OEM partnership effort.

Hi RD,..Re:<<Fortune List of Highest Return to Investors>>

I got an answer to my question about the criteria used but it is worthless (see below). So I don't have any idea why Dell was excluded from that list.
