The fact that the bid / ask price gap is much more reasonable at this time, should that not produce more volume? Why is the price going down instead of up?

Could be, but..

I really think there is only one MM, if any, and that's the bid side. I believe one MM sees the potential and is trying to take advantage of the lull in news to accumulate a block that can subsequently be sold on the run up. Who ever it is, they know the game.

The result is as you see it, the weak lose and go away.(IMO)!!
