I would agree, I don't think that governments and companies are reacting fast enough to the problem. They knew about the problem many years ago and did nothing. It is going to be a race, not a slow adjustment. Those that started too late, are in big trouble.

Incidentally, I personally feel that IBM purposely created this millenium bug problem. The two digit date was such a short-sighted, idiotic mistake that it had to be done on purpose. I will never believe it was simply a mistake. We may see IBM be the saviour and come up with a "recently developed fix" for the problem. Reality will dictate they have been preparing and developing a fix for this for a long time. What better way to ensure your future as a company than to sell a lot of computer systems with a problem, that would cost the user to pay out money to the company, or buy new systems to get the problem fixed. Car manufacturers do it all the time, as they like the repeat business from fixing problems with their cars. They will ensure future business by making flawed products.
