I think they will launch GEOs built specifically for telephony only after demand is proven, or the sat is funded by a government. Otherwise, there are plenty of their own transponders that they will utilize in the meantime---Orion 3 for Asia, SatMex5 for North and South America, Europe*Star for Europe/MiddleEast/Africa/Asia, Agila II transponders, etc. When the demand is shown, a 500,000 circuit GEO built specifically for telephony will become a reality. this could serve 10 to 20 million people. A country like China could blanket their country and connect all the various locations with several GEOs. Watch what NorTel/Telesat are doing also--ViaSat will likely be working with this alliance. The VP in charge of Starwire did resign--that is not just a rumor. The commercial sales are a significant factor to worry about, but that could change in the blink of an eye with the landing of any one of many contracts for a telephony system.
